Post image for 39 productions now vs 32 last year, reports BCFC

BC Film Commission provided an updated yesterday about the current state of film and tv production in this province. Things are definitely looking up when it comes to the number of productions but BC-based productions are slow. In a community with so much talent I wish we could see more home grown projects.

There are 39 projects (11 features films, 2 DVD features, 7 MOWs, 19 TV series) right now compared to last year with 32 projects at the same time of year.  Most notably, we had 12 TV series last year, 7 less than now.

Here is more from their update.

Currently, 20th Century Fox is filming “Ceasar: Rise of the Apes”, a prequel to the “Planet of the Apes” franchise starring John Lithgow, Freido Pinto, James Franco and Tom Felton and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules”, starring Zachary Gordon, Steve Zahn and Rachel Harris. “This Means War”, a romantic comedy starring Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon, “Final Destination 5”, “The Tall Man” and “Marley and Me: The Puppy Years” will start shooting in September.

B.C. is also busy with television series production. Warner Bros. has six series shooting including season 10 of “Smallville”, season 6 of “Supernatural”, season 3 of “Fringe”, season 2 of both “V” and “Human Target” and season 1 of “Hellcats”.  Other series in production include season 4 of “Eureka”, season 5 of “Psych”, season 3 of “Sanctuary” and season 2 of “Stargate Universe”, “Life Unexpected”, and Nickelodeon’s “The Troop”.  New TV series in production in BC include “Chaos”, “Facing Kate”, “Endgame”, “Health Nutz”, “Mr. Young”, and “The Haunting Hour”.

With the current BC tax credits, HST, and exchange rates, do you think Vancouver will continue to grow?
